Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro, Arkansas is uniquely known for its diamond field. Visitors are encouraged to go out to the field and dig for diamonds. Anything you are fortunate enough to find you can keep.

The entire DILDO Pack is welcome on the mine field to dig for diamonds. But it is important to be mindful of the weather.
On the day of our visit, the heat index was extremely high. I had to watch the dogs for signs of heat exhaustion and be ready to leave at the first sign.
Placards affixed to shovels are found throughout the field. Each one discusses a diamond that has been found.
Knowing that there was a diamond that shared his name, Sam was even more excited to dig.

Perdita had her nose to the ground and was digging in the mud. She was determined to find a diamond or two to adorn her princess crown.
After the dogs dug up the dirt, I scooped it into a sieve to sift for diamonds. Sam and Perdita eagerly watched in hopes that we would strike it rich.

Perdita and I carefully looked through our findings looking for any signs of diamonds. Piece-by-piece we looked at each stone carefully.
Unfortunately, the dogs started showing signs of heat exhaustion before we found anything. I quickly removed them from the heat and retreated to an air conditioned building. The staff were so kind in bringing a pale of water for the dogs.

We waited and recovered from the heat in the air condition while Chris finished his digging fun.
While we waited we explored the small museum of the regions mining history. There’s a variety of antique equipment along with some well-known diamonds displayed.
We didn’t find any diamonds but had a lot of fun digging in the dirt. This was definitely a great activity for the entire DILDO pack. Everyone in the DILDO pack bonded in the search for treasure. The dogs expended most of their pent-up energy digging and playing in the dirt. This made for a peaceful ride in the car afterwards as we traveled on toward life’s next great adventure.
